17th Feb, 2025 – Nairobi, Kenya
The much-anticipated inaugural Kenya Cup 2025 served off last Saturday, and we made an emphatic statement in our opening Group B fixture. In a high-octane clash at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, our team saw off a resilient KAPU side 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 25-13) to bag maximum points and set the tone for what promises to be an electrifying tournament.
The first set was a tightly contested affair, with both teams exchanging powerful spikes and solid defensive plays. However, Trailblazers’ experience and tactical discipline saw them edge out KAPU 25-22, setting the stage for a fierce battle ahead.
The second set mirrored the intensity of the first, with KAPU pushing hard to level the game. We remained composed under pressure, clinching the set 25-23 to take a crucial 2-0 lead.
With their backs against the wall, KAPU responded in the third set, capitalizing on our momentary lapse in concentration. Their well-coordinated attacks and aggressive serves secured a 25-21 victory, forcing a fourth set.
Determined not to let the match slip away, we came out with renewed energy in the fourth set and dominated proceedings, dismantling KAPU with a commanding 25-13 win to seal the match 3-1 and secure their first three points in Group B.
Other Group B Results
The action in Group B continued to serve up surprises as Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) showcased their championship pedigree with an impressive 3-1 victory over reigning National League champions Prisons Kenya. This came after KDF had dismissed KAPU in a similar 3-1 scoreline the previous day, making them the early frontrunners in the group.
Meanwhile, Chema Volleyball Club is yet to play a match as they had to honour their Division II fixture last weekend, leaving their Kenya Cup debut eagerly awaited.
