James Mutero, fondly known as “Manywele” due to his distinctive and signature rugged Afro-like hairstyle, is on a mission to cement his place in the Men’s National Team, Wafalme. As the team gears up for the 2023 East African Community Games scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, between December 12th and 22nd, Mutero’s journey takes center stage.

The “trailblazing” captain of the Trailblazers Volleyball Team made an impressive National Team debut just two months ago (winning all the matches he played) in the 2023 CAVB Africa Men’s Nations Cup in Egypt. Now, with the EAC Games on the horizon, he is determined to not only retain his spot in the Final 14 but to leave an enduring legacy on the court.

Beyond his athletic prowess, Mutero brings a wealth of experience and leadership qualities to Wafalme. On and off the court, he exemplifies what it means to be a true leader. His eloquence in articulating matters related to volleyball is matched only by his infectious smile and the motivation he provides to his fellow players, especially when faced with challenging situations.

As the team prepares to enter residential training on November 14th, 2023, Mutero is ready to defend his position with the same determination and resilience that has marked his entire career. The upcoming EAC Games not only serve as a battleground for regional supremacy but also as a platform for Mutero to showcase his skills, leadership, and unyielding spirit.
