25th July 2023 – Nairobi, Kenya– Congratulations are in order for fast-rising Middle-blocker, Eugine Okello, from Trailblazers Volleyball Club, as he receives the honor of being shortlisted in the National Team’s provisional squad. At just 21 years old, Eugine’s talent and potential have been recognized at the prestigious national level, leaving him feeling elated and grateful.
“When I learned about my inclusion in the provisional squad, I lacked words to describe how happy I felt,” Eugine humbly expressed. His initial reaction was one of thankfulness, attributing the opportunity to the “workings” of a Higher Power.
Preparing diligently for the challenges that lie ahead, Eugine has been honing his skills through gym sessions and off-season tournaments. The unwavering support and encouragement from Trailblazers’ coaches and management have been instrumental in keeping his spirits high and his determination unwavering. Eugine’s prowess in blocking caught the attention of the selectors, securing him a spot in the provisional squad. Looking ahead to the intense and challenging training and competition with the National Team, Eugine is undaunted, stating, “I am used to hard training; after all, no pain, no gain.”
As he sets his sights on securing a spot in the final squad, Eugine is focused on improving his blocking skills and fine-tuning his attacking abilities to compete with the best players in the country. Beyond the immediate opportunity, Eugine harbors dreams of becoming a professional player and representing teams abroad, a goal shared by many successful athletes in the sport. With fierce competition for a place in the final squad, Eugine maintains his confidence and positivity, leaving the outcome to a higher power. “The plans of the mind belong to man, but the answers belong to God,” he stated.
A driving force behind Eugine’s determination is his family, particularly his mother, whom he considers his hero. “I play for her, and wanting to better her life has pushed me to another level,” he shared. With the motto “Sky is never my limit,” Eugine exemplifies ambition and a relentless pursuit of success.
